THE CALLING OF PHILIP THE EVANGELIST - PART TWO
Beloved, I greet you in the Name that is above every other Name, Our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. Beloved, you are welcome once again to the second series of our Podcast message, entitled: The calling of Philip the Evangelist, a young adult from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter!., we continue with our Bible reading of the Gospel of John Chapter 1 verses 43,44: 43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Now the question is: Why did Jesus choose to call 3 men from the city of Bethsaida?
Now, what was so unique about the city of Bethsaida for Jesus to have called 3 of His 12 disciples from this place?
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus condemned 3 cities for not turning from sin and to faith in Him after seeing His mighty works and Bethsaida was one of them!!!
Jesus called 3 disciples of Jesus (Andrew, Peter and Philip) from Bethsaida because from research, it is highlighted that this place sat upon a hill and located about 1.5 miles or 2.25 kilometers from the high-water mark of the Sea of Galilee. This meant the young adults and married men like Peter were mostly fishermen and so for the means of transportation from one city to another, they could travel with Jesus in their boats.
The Primary Purpose of Jesus Calling 3 guys from Bethsaida is in Matthew 4:18, 19
18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Another Bible translation 19 Jesus said, “Come ·follow me [be my disciples], and I will ·make you [teach you how to] ·fish for people to fishers of men.”
20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
I will wrap up this message from John Chapter 1 verses 43 and 44 to highlight the salvation plan of Jesus to you.
Christ abides with Zacchaeus
Luke 19: 1 - 9
Jesus Comes to Zacchaeus’ House
1 Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.
7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.”
8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”
9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
