Elijah Proclaims a Drought
17 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of
Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God
of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew
nor rain these years, except
at my word.”
2 Then the word of the Lord came
to him,[PA1] saying, 3 “Get
away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows
into the Jordan. 4 And it will be that you
shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” [God used the ravens as His FLIGHT COURIER SERVICE to
prophet Elijah!......Supernatural Google Map Locators! The Ravens did not need
passports nor visas to fly from wherever they picked up the bread and meat to be
able to get the daily supplies to Elijah!

[PA1]Isaiah 55:11 "So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and shall succeed [prosper] in the thing for which I sent it".
---------------------------------------------------------
5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. 7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there[PA2] [PA3] . See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.[PA4] ” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”[PA5] [PA6]

PA2] 2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
[PA3]The joint evil forces of king Ahab and his father-in-law, Ethbaal with Jezebel as the woman in the middle from the land of Sidon which spread into Israel and Samaria and led to three and a half years of drought and famine pronouncement of Prophet Elijah; at the same time led to the salvation of the widow of Zarephath and her household who believed the prophet of God. [Acts 16:31]
[PA4]Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” [cf:Deuteronomy 8:3]
[PA5]John 6:35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
[PA6] Prophet Elijah obeyed the word of the LORD GOD and was satisfied physically and spiritually with food and water.
[PA7]2 Chronicles 20:20 ……..Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
The location of the Zarephath widow was divinely chosen by
God for Elijah to settle there as a proof of His intervention in mankind’s
hopelessness in life resulting from disobedience of God.
The SPIRITUAL KEY with the
Prophet Elijah obeying the word of the Lord in verse 8 meant that the presence
of God went with him to meet the widow without any shadow of doubt! When God’s
presence goes with us, we can be fully assured that He will also give us HIS
FULL REST! [Exodus 33:14]
12 So she said, “As the Lord your God lives,
I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in
a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go
in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do
as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to
me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus
says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up,
nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain
on the earth.’ ”
15 So she went away
and did according to the word of Elijah;[PA7] and she and he
and her household ate for many days. 16 The
bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He
spoke by Elijah.

Key Bible Exploration of Prophet Elijah:
The Prophet’s
name Elijah means, ‘The LORD is GOD. His name was divinely aligned with his
calling and ministry! He was sent by God to confront BAALISM [means lord,
husband, owner] and to declare to the people of the nation of Israel that the
LORD was God and there was no other.
In the first
verse of the Chapter, Elijah pronounced a judgement of DROUGHT in the land of
Israel because in time past, the LORD had warned the people of the nation with
threats to withhold seasonal rains from the land if the people turned from Him
to serve other gods!
Elijah prayed
for the drought and God answered his prayer to punish the nation according to
His word! (James 5:17)
Promise of Blessing and Retribution.

Leviticus
26: 18,19: 18 ‘And after all this, if you do not
obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19 I
will break the pride of your power; I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.

Deuteronomy
11: 16,17 16 Take heed to yourselves, lest
your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and
worship them, 17 lest the Lord’s anger be aroused against you,
and He shut up the heavens so that there be no rain, and the land yield no
produce, and you perish quickly from the good land which
the Lord is giving you.

Deuteronomy
28:23, 24 23 And your
heavens
which are over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is
under you shall be iron. 24 The Lord will change the rain of your
land to powder and
dust; from the heaven it shall come down on
you until you are destroyed.
The Sins of
King Ahab!
1 Kings 16: 29 – 34 30 Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of
the Lord, more than all who were before him. 31 And
it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the
sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal,
king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. 32 Then he set up an altar for Baal
in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 33 And
Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger
than all the kings of Israel who were before him
He married the
daughter (Jezebel) of the king of Phoenicia (including Tyre and Sidon), called
Ethbaal (the name means, Baal is alive!
Jezebel as the
wretched ad wicked wife of Ahab became the symbolic of evil of false religion
(Revelation 2 v 20)
Ahab gave worshipping official sanction in Samaria
through building a temple for Baal!.[2 Kings 3:2]. Baal was said to be the
storm god who provided the rain necessary or the fertility of the land.
Elijah’s drought pronouncement proved that Baal, the god
of the rains and fertility, was impotent before the LORD.
The
prophet Elijah believed the word of the Lord which came to Him and he was
established during the period of drought and famine. The widow of Zarephath
believed the word of the prophet Elijah and she and her household prospered
with supernatural abundance during the drought and famine
I end this podcast message with Isaiah 55: 6,7, 10 – 13.
6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, |
10 For as
the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, 12 “For you
shall go out with joy, |
The Almighty God bless you and keep you in the month of
August 2025 and beyond. Amen
