WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT THE FEAR OF GOD?
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT THE FEAR OF GOD?
PART 2: Proverbs 19:23
Deuteronomy Chapter 10: 12, 13, 16 and 20. (Deuteronomy 13:4; Joshua 4:24)
12 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good?
16 Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.
20 You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him, and to Him you shall hold fast, and take oaths in His name.
Joshua 24 v 14 to 18 (1 Chronicles 16:30; 2 Chronicles 9:7; Proverbs 3:7)
14 “Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”16 So the people answered and said: “Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods; 17 for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. 18 And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God.”
Ecclesiastes 12: 13 & 14:
The Whole Duty of Man: 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Isaiah 8:13
The LORD of hosts, Him you shall hallow(honour as holy); Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.(NKJV)
The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread. (NIV)
Make the LORD of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. (NLT)
Matthew 10:28 (Luke 23:40; Romans 11:20)
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (NKJV)
Don’t be in fear of those who can kill only the body but not your soul. Fear only God, who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (TPT)
1 Peter 1:17 - 21
17 You pray to God and call him Father, and he judges each person’s work equally. So while you are here on earth, you should live with respect for God. 18 You know that in the past you were living in a worthless way, a way passed down from the people who lived before you. But you were saved from that useless life. You were bought, not with something that ruins like gold or silver, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, who was like a pure and perfect lamb. 20 Christ was chosen before the world was made, but he was shown to the world in these last times for your sake. 21 Through Christ you believe in God, who raised Christ from the dead and gave him glory. So your faith and your hope are in God. (NCV)
1 Peter 2:17 (Revelation 14:7)
17 Show respect for all people: Love the brothers and sisters of God’s family, respect God, honour the king. (NCV)
Key Notes on Revelation Chapter 14: 1 - 7
The Song of the Saved
14 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion. With him were one hundred forty-four thousand people who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the noise of flooding water and like the sound of loud thunder. The sound I heard was like people playing harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the new song except the one hundred forty-four thousand who had been bought from the earth. 4 These are the ones who did not do sinful things with women, because they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb every place he goes. These one hundred forty-four thousand were bought from among the people of the earth as people to be offered to God and the Lamb. 5 They were not guilty of telling lies; they are without fault.
The Three Angels
6 Then I saw another angel flying high in the air. He had the eternal Good News to preach to those who live on earth—to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7 He preached in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him praise, because the time has come for God to judge all people. So worship God who made the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the springs of water.”

(Revelation 14:7> My Bible reference from the story of the adulterous woman in John Chapter 8 v 1 to 11. Then in John 8:12, Jesus said: I am the Light of the World, he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life).
Any person who walks in darkness is a slave to sin; and in this Scripture: sexual sin (Adultery and Fornication) is highlighted. Jesus explains in John 8:34 - 36 with these words:
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
As believers in Jesus (decision made by any person surrendering his/her sinful ways in repentance to follow Jesus); we are mandated by Jesus in John 8:31,32 with these words:
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
(The Greek word for disciple is 'mathetes' which means 'one who learns instruction from another'). A disciple is a believer of Jesus who lives continually by the Word of Jesus.
Every believer (Christian) is called to be a disciple of Jesus and this means he/she will follow Jesus and put the claims of Jesus first in his/her life, regardless of the cost to himself/herself.
Sin separates a person from God and the Lord Jesus Christ is the One "who gave Himself for our sins and rescued us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father." He gave Himself for our sins; He paid the penalty and provided atonement. (Galatians 1:4).

The fear of the LORD is a state of mind in which one's own attitudes, will, feelings, deeds, and goals are exchanged for God's.
Beloved, today, I pray that as you read this article, you will ask the Holy Spirit to help you to renew your mind to surrender totally to fear God through the teachings of the Word of God in the Bible. Amen
